What Battle Dress Are You Wearing?

“When David, the shepherd boy, set out to confront Goliath, he nearly collapsed under the heavy, complicated coat of armour provided for him by King Saul (1 Samuel 17:38, 39).
Explaining that he was not accustomed to such equipment, he advanced, instead, with his shepherd’s staff, his slingshot and five stones.

Watching his approach, Goliath felt so insulted that he ridiculed David. The boy replied, ‘You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied’ (1 Samuel 17:45, 46).

What strange and cumbersome equipment some Christian soldiers attempt to take into battle – committee  plans, publicity campaigns, organizational schemes. Is it any wonder that they bend under the weight of it all, or trip over its complexities? Obviously, we need to think in terms of an ‘outfit’ radically different from the world’s fashion. We need God’s battle dress.”  (Ephesians 6:10-18).
