Once, when I was in the Army, I remember our Sergeant Major on the parade ground suddenly turning to a new recruit shouting, ‘Jones, you’re stark naked!’ We all looked around to see this amazing sight. Jones was, in fact, quite normally and properly dressed, but he had forgotten to put on his belt. Because a belt holds on the other garments and keeps them together, it is vitally important not to forget the belt of truth.
Your whole Christian life should be ‘held together’ with truth. You cannot live on feelings and experiences alone, however precious they often may be. You must live on the solid, objective truth of God’s Word… If you have no belt of truth, you cannot possibly keep the rest of the armor in place.
